Questions on buying contact lenses...?!

Question:

Questions on buying contact lenses...?

i want to buy contacts from the walmart vision center (where i live, its the only eye center) i heard that you need to go through a series of appointments before you actually can recieve your contacts. can you please tell me how many of these appointments theres going to be and a range of how much each will cost?? thanks!
ps- i can't find the info anywhere else, thats why i'm asking here, and i can't call them right now...

Answers:

Well its really depending on a few factors. Assuming you already have a prescription, they will need to take measurements to figure out the base curve you need for your contacts. They also should do tests for dry eyes, tear quality/quantity and blink characteristics. They also need to do an ocular examination to see if your eyes are in good condition for contact lens wear.
Assuming that goes well, then you will be fitted with your contact lenses and the fitter will check the fit. You will also be trained how to care for your contacts and how to insert/remove them.
If everything goes smoothly they usually send you home with the trial contacts until you come back for another check up.
If they do not have the right type/size/prescription of the trial contacts that you need then they may not be able to send you home with them. They will have to order them in and call you back when they get them.
Also if you are not able to insert or remove your contacts they should not send you home with them and will have to come back for more training in that case there may be an extra fee.
For a contact lens fitting there is usually a fitting fee around $30+ and the trial lenses are free.
If you are happy with the trials then you can order them by the box around $30+ for a box with 6 lenses. The price can vary due to the material, frequency of replacement, colors, or if they are toric (for astigmatism). hope that helps a bit hun :)
