If you get a tiny piece of dirt or glass in your eye, can it cause permanent vis!

Question:

If you get a tiny piece of dirt or glass in your eye, can it cause permanent vision damage?

I was driving on Thursday and a particle got in my eye. It scratched it pretty bad and it still hurts, sometimes it feels like theres still a piece of glass in my eye everytime I blink.
I use eyedrops all day long but my affected eye is blurry now.
DO EYEBALLS HEAL?

Answers:

Yes, you can recieve some damage, but it's unlikely permanent.
You probably have what is known as a corneal abrasion. This is usually a small scratch on the outer surface of the sclera that can be caused by a foreign object entering the eye such as dirt, glass, etc..., when you rub it, the object is embedded in the eye deeper, or is forced into the soft tissue of the eye causing a minute tear or scrape. It is important that you don't rub your eye any further. Even if you managed to remove the object by rinsing the eye, you might still have the sensation that something is in your eye. This is because the corneal abrasion is a severe irritant, and the concentration of sensory in the eye is the greatest than any other area in the body. It can be extremely painful depending on the degree of severity of the injury. When this happens you need to go to the E.R., or an opthamolagist so that they can examine your eye and track the regrowth of new cells in the eye. There will be a problem if these cells don't grow back uniformly. How, ever, in most cases they do. In cases of larger abrasions, you may experience symptoms of blurred vision temporarily while this area heals. Since I have no way of determining the extent of injury, or the size of the abrasion, I could not even estimate the damage. You need to go and be seen ASAP. You only have one pair of eyes & you can't put a pricetag on vision. Go tomorrow.
