Why aren't our eyes damaged when the eye doctor shines that bright light in our !

Question:

Why aren't our eyes damaged when the eye doctor shines that bright light in our eyes during eye exams?

Shouldn't this cause damage?

Answers:

If shining a regular light into your eye caused damage then a doctor of all people would definitely not do it!
The type of light that is known to cause damage to eyes is in the Ultra Violet range. This occurs naturally in our sunlight and special types of lights used for growing plants or blacklights. Even this type of light takes extended periods of exposure to cause damage. Laser pointers can be dangerous to eyes as well but that is not the same thing.
The doctor uses a regular light and your exposure to it is very minimal. This will not cause any damage to your eyes, so no need to worry :)
