Contact lens wearers. I have gas perm. contacts. When I cut grass debris gets in!

Question:

Contact lens wearers. I have gas perm. contacts. When I cut grass debris gets into the air and into my eyes. I

clean my contacts but the problem returns when I resume cutting. Dust & fine particles get under the contacs and the problem starts all over again. When I remove my contacts before bed, I put drops into my eyes but the pain and redness still lasts for about a day afterward I usually cover my eyes with sun glasses etc. but still have the problem. I was wondering if going to soft contacts would help reduce the problem or not . Will soft lens do much to help, or will I still have the same problem regardless?

Answers:

Well it sounds like a particle got trapped under your contact lens and scratched your cornea. Switching to a soft lens would actually be worse because soft lenses are more likely to absorb things in the air such as dust. Being in an environment with dust and particles is contraindicated for soft and rigid contact lens wear. No matter which type of lens you wear particles can get trapped underneath and scratch your cornea. When doing work that involves particles flying around your eyes you should wear your glasses or even safety eyewear with polycarbonate lenses. At least then if something gets in your eye it can be washed out and not get scratched against your cornea :) If your eye continues to hurt you should see an eye doctor just in case :)
Good luck with everything :)
