It is not true that only male's can be colorblind. Females can be color blind, but it is a much less frequent occurrence in females. This is because colorblindness is a sex-linked trait (specifically x-linked). A boy is XY. Y comes from dad, so if mom carries color blind trait and passes it on to son then son will be color blind. for a girl to be colorblind she would have to recieve the gene from both her dad and mom because it is a recessive trait. This is why it's more common in guys, they are XY and can't cover up the trait. Girls are XX and can cover up the trait.
