Lazy eye treatment?

Im 21 and i just learned that i have a lazy eye,i havent had a lazy eye my entire life. How would this happen? isuffered a concussion around 9 months ago. Is treatment possible?

Answers:

Lazy eye, or ambliopia as doctors call it, is a disorder seen in infants. It is usually treated by covering the good eye and making the bad eye work, thus strengthening and training the bad eye muscles. In an adult, there is nothing that I know of that can be done. However, in your case, since you had a concussion, I would strongly suspect that there is an association. Did you have a CT or MRI done at the time of the concussion, or recently? That might show a small bleed or something that can be fixed that would cure your problem. But, the best that you can do is find a neuro-ophthalmologist. (Yes, there is such a thing; I've seen one myself for a post-stroke oscillopsis) They are very rare, and you'll find them in major hospitals, especially teaching hospitals. (I saw mine in San Antonio.) I don't think they are listed in the phone book yellow pages; you have to be referred by a plain neurologist or ophthalmologist. But, that's your best shot, and believe me, you want the best when it comes to vision. You do not want to lose your stereoscopic vision, as I did. This is not something the average GP or even internist is competent to handle; you need a neuro-ophthalmologist; failing that (say you can't find one), get a neurologist or ophthalmologist; maybe they can refer you, or possibly cure you (You don't need a neurosurgeon, at least not yet).

This is not something you want to play around with; trust me. If you want further information, get in touch with me (heathbug@inbox.com). Good Luck.
