Atropine eye drops?!

Question:

Atropine eye drops?

I had surgery on my eye on the 1st of may. From then until 22nd of may I had to use atropine drops to dilate the pupil. However its a week since I stopped using them and my pupil has not returned to normal yet. Is this usual? I'm trying to get hold of my doctor but as its bank holiday I'm not getting very far. Just wondered if there is anyone out there who knows or can find me any information. Thanks xx

Answers:

Do not panic! Atropine is a muscle relaxant and this is one of its after effects. It is still very soon after you have stopped using the drops and therefore your eye has to get back to normal which can take more than a week since you have had the drops for three. By all means go and see your doctor if you are still worried in a few days time , but at this stage it is early days and there is no need to worry unduly.
