Why does this happen?!

Question:

Why does this happen?

I wear glasses, but if I take them off and squint my eyes so much that if I scrunched them up any more they'd be closed, I can see almost as well as I can with them. Why does this happen?

Thank you!

Answers:

Have you ever been to the the eye doctor's office and they have you read the eye chart? Then they give you this thing to hold up over your eye with a lot of tiny pin holes in it? They tell you to concentrate on one hole and read the chart again through it? Most people will improve on the eye chart by at least a line or two...when you block out a lot of the distracting light and are looking through just a small area, it improves your vision.

I wear glasses too, mostly for driving at night...I can squint myself down to almost 20/20 to read the signs if I really try, but by the time I do, I'm on top of the sign or past it...not a safe way to drive...
