My contact is hard as a rock...is it able to soften up again?!

Question:

My contact is hard as a rock...is it able to soften up again?

i thought i put one of my contacts in the solution but it must have stuck to my finger and it fell onto the counter. it was a soft contact and since it was out all night it's really hard. is it able to soften up again? im really upset about it because i won't be able to get a new pair.

As an Optician, I've been asked that questions MILLIONS of times...I usually tell people that sometimes you can soak it and still wear it, but it often times doesn't feel right. And if it is all warped and doesn't look right, DON'T put it in. Your risking hurting yourself or a possible infection. Rule of thumb though...if its dried up, get rid of it...Never ceases to amaze me how people are so willing to do something potentially dangerous to their eyes. Hello??? These are your EYES, people...not your teeth! You can't get new eyes...once you've lost the vision in the two you were born with - that's it!

If you can, next time you go to the eye doctor, get switched to disposable contacts. That way if it happens again, you will have a supply to draw from. And they aren't terribly expensive...

Good luck!
