Eye drops. When using eye drops are you supposed to keep your eye open right aft!

Question:

Eye drops. When using eye drops are you supposed to keep your eye open right after using drops? Blink a bunch?

of times right after drop goes into eye? Nothing different than usual? The eye drop bottle doesn't indicate what to do once drop is inserted. What are you supposed to do?

Answers:

Keeping your eyes shut for a few minutes immediatley after the eye drop is applied is the best thing to do, (this was already mentioned previously). This keeps the medication in the conjunctival fornices (the pockets underneath the lids) and allows more of the drug to be absorbed.

Blinking a couple of times or a bunch of times will push the medication towards the tear drainage system of the eye. The meds will just be drained away faster if you blink. Blinking IS NOT A GOOD IDEA.

As always it is good to see a doctor BEFORE putting in any topical medications or taking any oral medications.
