Answers:

The FAA requires that you have vision corrected to 20/20 and it is measured at the time of your medical (airline pilots need a medical ever 6 months). Yes, you can have Laser surgery, but glasses work just as well for a fraction of the price. Your qualifications for flight school entry are generally based on your medical but most will let you in so long as you're paying. This doesn't mean that you can get your certificate as a medical is required for that, but you can learn even if you can't see. You'll just be wasting money if you don't have one, though.

Most places also require you to be 21 to get eye surgery because your eyes haven't stopped developing at 18.

I have 20/40 vision in my right eye and wear contacts when I fly. I wear them to my medical exam and am tested both with and without them. With them I see better than 20/20 so I qualify.

If you get a medical and then get eye surgery you need to go for a new one, then tell the doctor examining you that you've had said surgery. They'll test your eyes and remove the limitation on your medical which states "Holder must wear corrective lenses."
