Prescription sunglasses?!

Question:

Prescription sunglasses?

I have a couple questions about prescription sunglasses
I like the big kinds of sunglasses, and the squarish ones.
1.do you think wal-mart will be able to put the lenses in the sunglassses if i have my prescription ready?
2. how much does it usually cost?

thanks!

Answers:

It depends on the quality of the frame you are using. Most off the rack/otc sunglasses are not the right quality to hold a prescription lens. The plastic is not meant to hold up to the rigors of having lenses inserted and/or the beveling/groove is not right. If you are going to invest in lenses I would also make sure the frame is of decent optical quality.
As to the cost, that also depends on your prescription and a couple of other factors. A dark-tinted lens with UV protection (the important part of the sunglasses!) will probably not be very expensive at all. At a place like Wal-Mart probably under 60.00 if you have regular, plastic lenses, a moderate prescription with no other options. If you have them polarized and any other material than plastic you are going to pay more. I've worn polarized lenses (which block glare reflected at you from water, wet or hot pavement, snow, etc. - these lenses include UV protection) most of my adult life and probably always will. I usually have an anti-reflective coating added to the back and sometimes a flash mirror coating on the front. Those options are usually pricey.
