Answers:

See an ophthalmologist. It sounds as though you suffer from severe dry eye which can be damaging and uncomfortable. There are other options available to you - restasis (results are varied), lacrimal duct plugs (various methods), dietary supplements (such as evening primrose oil in conjunction with treatment/management), and/or changing some of your habits. If you smoke or are around smoke - well, that's a common sense thing, either quit or ask loved ones that do smoke to be more considerate of your condition. Dietary changes can sometimes help. Some of your meds can also cause or contribute to dry eye. You may have allergies that are contributing, as well. If you read, craft, sew/crochet/knit, are on a computer quite often, or do anything else that requires much of your concentration you may have to use a rewetting drop before, during, and after these activities. When you are engrossed in something like that you have a tendency not to blink as often so tears are not being distributed over the eye properly, resulting in dryness, redness, irritation, and/or burning.

You need to work closely with your eye care professional with this to figure out what the cause is and to start on the proper course for treatment and management. If you are not getting any relief or your Dr. is apathetic to your issues - switch to another Dr.
