Red Eye? Help!?!

Question:

Red Eye? Help!?

My dad just woke up this morning and the inner part of one of his eye was really red. He said that he didn't get poked in the eye or anything. He's also been having headaches too. His eye looks like the pic below but there's no bruising around the eye and its not so fully red. Does anyone know what would be the cause of this? Does he need to go to the doctor?

Answers:

Well its always a good idea when your not sure to go to the doctor anyways... when it comes to your eyes its always better safe then sorry.
It looks similar to a Subconjunctival hemorrhage , although I cannot say 100%
" subconjunctival hemorrhage is bleeding underneath the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva contains many small, fragile blood vessels that are easily ruptured or broken. When this happens, blood is leaked into the space between the conjunctiva and sclera."

Causes of subconjunctival hemorrhage are as follows
Minor eye trauma, Spontaneously with increased venous pressure , Streneuous Exercising ,Coughing, Touching/widening eyes, Sneezing, Vomiting, particularly forced vomiting as seen in bulimia nervosa,Straining, Severe alcohol intoxication, leading to raised blood pressure, Blood dyscrasia (rare), Severe hypertension, LASIK and Blood thinners.
If it is a subconjunctival hemorrhage then it requires no treatment..... but see an eye doctor to be sure :)
