Problem with contacts?!

Question:

Problem with contacts?

Im 17,I got contact lenses just before christmas.I didnt get glasses because i hated them.So i have been wearing monthly contacts.I have never once slept in them,And i clean them everynight. But for some reason i woke up this morning with half of my left eye red with little 'squiggly' red lines. And its pretty painfull.I heard it could be from overuse, since i have warn them every day for months. But i know people who wear them for months extra, but i change mine out every month to the day.I have been putting eye drops and a ice pack and on my eye and it seems to be helping. But i cant see a darn thing without my contact. And even if i order my glasses right now i wouldnt be able to get them for at least a few days.So any suggestions? lol Any info is appreciated!

Hun it seems you have got yourself in a little bit of a predicament. When wearing contacts you should always have a back up pair of glasses for situations like this. I know other people over wear their contacts...but as our mothers would say.. would you jump off a bridge if other people were doing it? As you have found out it is just not good for your eyes.
If you over wear your contacts substances like protein, calcium, and lipids that are found naturally in your tears can build up on your lenses. These deposits make your contacts less comfortable than when they were new, and can also make your eyes more prone to infection.
Lens cleaning products help. But over time buildup still occurs, necessitating lens replacement.
So the moral of the story is.... if the recommended wear time is a month then throw them out after a month. Your eyes are way too important to take a risk of harming them like that.
The redness in your eye could be either your eye is very irritated from your contacts or it could be the beginning of an eye infection (conjunctivitis). Best thing to do is take out your contacts and throw them away! You may want to wear your old glasses until it is possible to get new ones! Call your eyecare professional for an appt to check your eyes....because over wearing your contacts can cause damage. In the mean time be careful, if your eye is infected try not too touch it because you could infect your other eye or even other people.

Hopefully everything goes well for you :)
