Do you know anyone who has had eye laser surgery to get 20/20 vision?!

Question:

Do you know anyone who has had eye laser surgery to get 20/20 vision?

If so, what was the outcome and how long does it last. I'm thinking about getting it done. Is it expensive?

Answers:

I haven’t had it done, but I’ve done a lot of research as I would like to have it done some day. How long it lasts depends on your eyes – if you still need a higher prescription every time you visit your optometrist, then your eyes are still degenerating and you will need glasses/contacts again within a couple of years after treatment (only not nearly as strong). If your vision has stabilized – meaning there has been very little or no change in your prescription for the last 2-3 years, then the treatment will last MUCH longer. You may need reading glasses in 10 years, but that will be due to normal eye ageing and nothing can stop that (yet). They say it is usually best to wait until after you are at least 25 to get laser surgery, since nearsightedness is usually more or less stabilized by then.

The cost depends entirely on which clinic you go to. The average seems to be about $1000 to $1500 PER eye. Some charge extra to correct astigmatism, some charge extra to correct higher prescriptions. Some include the cost of post-operative care and some don’t. Look for a clinic that has a solid reputation and has been in business for 10+ years. Don’t just run to the cheapest clinic. Educate yourself on the different types of laser eye surgery, and know the risks and benefits of each.

This clinic is based in Vancouver, Canada, but their site has a lot of great information:
