Can anyone help me with this problem who has contacts?!

Question:

Can anyone help me with this problem who has contacts?

I noticed today that the veins in my eye were really red. My teacher said it could be pinkeye but i don't think it is because i just recently got contacts. My mom said it probably had something to do with me not cleaning my contacts well. She said i probably have bacteria in my eye. Theres no discomfort in my eye, no discharge, or itchiness. It feels normal to me. Has anyone ever had this problem? What did you do about it? How long did it take to go away?

Answers:

There are a myriad of causes for your eyes to look red when you wear contact lenses. If you can look me in the eye (screen) and honestly say that you are cleaning them for 20 seconds prior to storing them at night, then I doubt that you are experiencing an infection. Even if you are using a "NO-RUB" solution, rub them in the palm of your hand. There are compatibility issues with some contact lens materials and solutions. I would recommend that you use OptiFree Replenish, but still rub them. Since you were recently fit for the lenses, you should return to the place that fit you and have them look at your eyes. Sometimes the lenses become too tight during the day and do not allow your blinking to flush the tears that lie under the contact lenses. A lens that moves more would help this. As one answerer stated, you may be helped with one of the newer materials that allows oxygen to move more freely through the lenses. If you experience blurred vision, discomfort, thick discharge, sensitivity to light or if the redness does not resolve by switching solutions then have your eye doctor see you.
