Eye brightening drops - any health risks?!

Question:

Eye brightening drops - any health risks?

I sometimes get red-eye in the morning and I was thinking of using the eye-whitening or brightening drops you can get in Boots. I had laser surgery about six years ago - and have never had any problems with it since. Would it be safe for me to use the drops?

Answers:

Often drops that "get the red out" cause more harm then good. A lot of people become dependent on them to keep their eyes white and they must continually increase how often they use them. Sometimes it gets to the point where no matter how much they use them the redness won't go away. You're better off treating the problem...whether it's dry eye, eye allergies, etc. Try something in an artificial tear first (Refresh tears or Optive). Remember even though you had laser surgery you should still have your eyes examined once a year!
