30 day contact lenses?!

Question:

30 day contact lenses?

I know that you can get contact lenses that you can wear non-stop for 30 days (so basically overnight), but are they any good? Are they bad for your eye? I've been wearing monthly lenses for over a year now (the type u can wear for about 10 hours a day). Thanks!

Oh, and can I swim in the non stop lenses?

Answers:

Those type of lenses are called 'extended wear', and the lens material contains silicone, which makes them more permeable to oxygen, allowing your eyes to 'breathe' better.

The only extended wear lens available to correct astigmatism is 'Purevision Toric'. They are a pretty good lens, but not everyone can tolerate wearing them every night.

Studies show that people wearing this type lens are slightly more likely to get infections and irritation from the lenses, but at the end of the day, they wouldn't be sold if they were bad for your eyes. A long as you go for regular check-ups at the opticians, allow your eyes to get used to them gradually, and always remove them if your eyes are sore or red, you should be fine. I also recommend removing them every week and cleaning them, before popping them back in again, to stop protein and other gunk building up on them.

Best thing to do is have a chat with your optician!

By the way, you should NEVER swim in these lenses unless you want to get a very nasty infection)
