Antibiotic eye drops and contacts????!

Question:

Antibiotic eye drops and contacts????

So I got a real bad red eye yesterday and tried to live with it but the sun and light was killing me so I when to the Eye doc at night and he put me on some antibiotic eye drops he says it could be a abrashion or virus but he's not sure no mucus is coming out of my eye just stinging and watering up. So I took today off work but I have to go in on Fri and see him again so when I put my contacts back in can a still take the eye drops he gave me as I have lost my glasses. It feels much better today but is still all red. Thanks Justin

Answers:

If your red eye is coming from an infection, putting on your contact will not be a good idea since they might also get infected/contaminated as well.

As for putting in antibiotic drops while on contacts, it may not also be such a good idea depending on the material of your contacts and the anti-biotic drops that you're using. There are some antibiotic drops that produce a whitish precipitate that may build up on your contacts and stick to it.

It would be best to ask your eye doctor. He/she was the one who examined and prescribed the topical medications and would be in the BEST position to answer these questions.
