Can a Doctor or Nurse give me the treatment for Gasoline in the eyes?!

Question:

Can a Doctor or Nurse give me the treatment for Gasoline in the eyes?

I was just at a gas station and a child about 7 pulled the pump out of the car and sprayed gas onto his face an into his eyes.
The old man with him wouldn't do anything for him even when I gave him a new bottle of water to flush his eyes.

This is driving me crazy for a child I do not know and cannot do anything about. The old man got mad when I gave him the water and called me names and threw the bottle of water at me.

Some days you cannot win for losing.

What damage can be done to the eyes if they are not flushed out promptly?

Thanks.

Answers:

He should have flushed his eyes with warm water for at least 5 minutes and sought ER treatment immediately. Poor child, ignorant man, this is a serious accident and can cause corneal damage. So sorry you had this experience, it would upset me to no end, too. Trying to help someone in the face of ignorance (cruelty on this guys part) is too much to bear.
