Our corneas are avascular (no blood vessels on them) which is part of the reason why they're transparent. Thus it obtains a portion of its o2 supply fron nearby vessels and the atmosphere.
Contacts cover your corneas and thus limit the amount of oxygen it can obtain from the atmosphere. Thus, at night when they're covere by your eyelids AND contacts this further limits the amount of O2 your corneas can get.
This is the reason why contacts should be removed at night. Its not for the contact lenses, its for your corneas.
Without O2, the corneas become edematous (retain water) and become less transparent and thus your vision will suffer.
