How long to keep contacts?!

Question:

How long to keep contacts?

I have the 2-week diposable kind, but some of my friends say they use the same pair for up to 3 or 4 months as long as they change the solution everyday. I personally use mine about 3 weeks and change the solution every 3 or 4 days. What's best? How long should I keep them?

Answers:

If you are using 2-week disposables, then be sure to discard them after 2 weeks. If your friends are wearing them for 3-4 months as you say, they are surely paying for it in many ways. 2-week contact lenses are made to be in use for little more than 2 weeks, and after that period they get weaker and less effective. They can tear or get scratched easier, which can in turn damage your eyes. You may also find that wearing contacts too long can cause dry, irritable eyes and eyelids, and chances are your optometrist will notice it at your next appointment.
