How long does pink eye last generally?
we think that my husband got conjunctivitus from swimming in a chlorinated pool. that is the only thing that we can really narrow it down to. we do not think it is an allergy infection. he has had swollen and pinkish eyes and wakes up with alot of gunk around them since friday. we are treating it with over-the-counter eyedrops called OPCON-A as recommended by the pharmacist. we have not taken him to dr yet. do we need to go see the dr? how long might it be until it clears up?

It depends on if the cause of your husband's conjunctivitis is bacterial or viral. Pink eye cause by viruses in adults or children should clear up in 10 days. However, it is recommended that you go see a doctor since your husband got this while swimming. Opcon-A is used mainly for eye redness and irritations due to allergens such a dust or pollen. They are like artifical tears, and will only sooth the eye, but will not get rid or treat the bacterial infection, if that is what your husband has.
