Seeing blood in eye?!

Question:

Seeing blood in eye?

I posted earlier about my grandmother seeing blood in her eye when she goes to bed. I thought it was in both eyes, but it is only in the right eye, her "good" eye. She went to the doctor yesterday and they didn't find anything wrong. She has macular degeneration also. She doesn't have diabetes. She went to the doctor again today, and they took blood work. Do you think they could have missed a busted blood vessel?! From all of the responses it sounds like it could be serious. So far she has been to 2 doctors. Do you think they could miss something serious? Should she go to the emergency room?

Answers:

you have to answer 2 major questions is she having pain? or loss of vision? if she is having these problems she should be seen in the ER. If not she probably just has a broken blood vessel and there is nothing that can be done about that, it just has to run it's course. The broken blood vessel is not harmful even though it looks like it, it could come from sneezing or coughing or rubbing the eye and it should clear up in a few days,. and if the ophthalmologist has already done a full dilated exam i would not worry about it, unless pain or loss of vision. good luck
