Help! how do i get rid of capsaicin on my contacts?!

Question:

Help! how do i get rid of capsaicin on my contacts?

So I cooked dinner yesterday, which involved chopping chilies. I must have not washed my hands properly before taking out my contacts, because this morning when I put them on they were pure chili in my eyes!

I washed everything carefully, the container, my hands and everything, and soaked the contacts again in fresh solution. they have been soaking all day, and just now I tried them on, with no improvement at all.

Obviously capsaicin is not water-soluble, so no amount of washing will get rid of it in my contacts. My question is, what do I soak/wash them in to get the chili off? I've been suggested vodka or milk, but I'm thinking that won't be so good for my contacts. should i just throw them out and open a new pack? (i wear monthlies).

Answers:

Yes, dispose of them. Contacts will soak up anything they can so please do not soak them in anything at all. If you did soak them in vodka or milk you would literally be putting that in your eye... not a good idea! Throw out your contacts and replace the case. Better to be safe then sorry :)
