Black squiggles on the eyes?!

Question:

Black squiggles on the eyes?

I can see black marks, mainly when i look at a white background is when they are truly visible. I think there scratches on my lens.
Also when i move my eye quick, they are slightly slow to follow. so is this the protctive film over my eye that is scratched?
hard to explain really.

Answers:

By your description, I think they're "vitreous floaters."

All people have vitreous gel inside their eyes (its the gel which makes up most of the volume of eyes.) As we age, portions of the vitreous gel liquefies (a process called syneresis) and thus varying densities result which then cast shadows onto your retina (specially in high illumination or contrast conditions). These shadows are then percieved as dark/shadowy squiggly floating objects which follow where ever you look.

Floaters are not usually vision threatening. You should however observe them carefully. If they increase in number (more than 10, 5-6 floaters per eye may still be normal) and are accompanied by flashes of light, you should see an ophthalmologist right away since this may be an early sign of retinal detachment.
