How can i tell if it's a corneal abrasion or conjunctivitis?!

Question:

How can i tell if it's a corneal abrasion or conjunctivitis?

i took my contacts out and one eye is really red and sensitive to light and gets really teary. how can i tell if it's a corneal abrasion or an eye infection and how do i fix it?
also, i already went and saw the doctor and they gave me this eye drop stuff for conjuncivitis but from further reading, i think it might be a corneal abrasion because of the symptons but i'm not sure? what od i do?

Answers:

lol at the guy above - common causes are wlaking into a tree branch (not gettin an eyelash in your eye, or catching it with a fingernail)

anyway - even if it is a corneal abrasion the drops your dr gave you will help anyway. But your cornea is the fastest healing part of the body and a corneal abrasion should heal within 48 hours.

I think i currently have the problem you are talking about (im the most hypocritical person in optics lol) i had yellow/white gloop in my eye and still refused to take my contact lenses out. i also have a very red eye. and have been given chloramphenicol. which tastes horrible but thats another story.

If you are unsure go to see an optician. Play it by ear if you are worried go see an optom if it seems to be gettin better keep using the drops and then go and get it checked when you think it has cleared up. and if you are using lenses still wear dailies and wash your hands after inserting each eye.
