I have itchy eyes lately and I'm curious about the best eye drops?!

Question:

I have itchy eyes lately and I'm curious about the best eye drops?

Allergies have finally gotten the best of me! My eyes have been itchy and dry the past few weeks and I'm not quite sure if I'm using the right product. I have been using Visine to moisturize. My questions is when I use it is it supposed to burn a little bit (doesnt hurt just burns) and what produce do you use or reccomend?

Also, I don't wear contact or glasses...thanks!

Answers:

It is ALWAYS best to consult your ophthalmologist before using any form of medication.

I have ALWAYS discouraged my patients from using vision NOT because they're harmful per se, but because they DELAY seeing a doctor. Patients will usually pick up visine and use them for 2 weeks for ANY eye condition, by the time I see them (and other ophthalomolgists for that matter) what ever they've got has already become worse are thus harder to treat.

VEGETABLE or PLANT MATTER of any sort has no place in and around the eye since they may contain fungi which is one of the hardest infections to treat anywhere. The tea bag suggestion is NOT A GOOD IDEA.

Dry eye syndrome, and allergic conjunctivitis MAY manifest as dry-feeling itchy eyes, most of the previously mentioned drops (such as systane and refresh) are medications for dry eye syndrome, and though they can help with allergic conjunctivitis, it will not treat it completely.

I will not recommend any medication, out of fear that you will try out out first before seeking proper medical attention.

Pls see an ophthalmologist first.
