I have being wear glasses for 7 years?

i think it is about time that i start to wear contacts but everytime i take my glasses off i have very bad blurry vision could this be astagism and what does that mean

Your blurry vision is your need to wear glasses but it shouldn't prevent your from getting contacts. Perhaps, when you get older (I don't how old your are), you might be a good candidate for a Laser treatments.
Astigmatism is caused by an unevenly shaped eyeball (like a rugby ball). Because only parts of the image are correctly focused, distortion is caused at all distances.
About half of glasses wearers have this added problem.
The dry eye-syndrome can be helped with eye drops which you can get @ your local drug store.
