Why do eyes get yellow and sometimes their blood vessels pop, reddening the eye?!

Question:

Why do eyes get yellow and sometimes their blood vessels pop, reddening the eye?!?

Please help, is this a serious condition?

Answers:

There are several reasons for yellow eyes, one of them being jaundice which does point to a liver problem. But yellow eyes must be accompanied eventually with yellow skin. If you have a fair skin, then it is quite easy to spot yellow skin with yellow eyes and it MUST therefore be jaundice.

However, if what you're talking about is slightly dirty yellow tinge in the whites of your eyes, it is possible that it isn't jaundice. It may be due to age, cholesterold deposits or simple pigmentation in that particular area.

Sub-conjunctival hemorrhage is what happens when blood vessles underneath our conjunctiva (the thin moist translucent skin of our eyes) ruptures. Blood collects underneath the conjunctiva and due to its translucent nature, it's very visible and quite scary to look. Fortunately, it is not vision threatenning. Repeated subconjunctival Hges can also give your eyes a slightly yellow look.

What causes them? Any form of straining can cause subconjunctival vessels to rupture, but on the more serious side of things, hypertension can also cause this.

It would be best to still see your physician.
