Does anybody use HARD contacts or glasses?!

Question:

Does anybody use HARD contacts or glasses?

>.<

I'm not sure if I should use them or not. The optometrist suggested it, since I'm getting blinder at such a fast rate... I have no idea what the number they tell you means [if you can tell me, that'd be great!], but it's a 650 =/ Is that toooooo high for a 15 year old? Or does it depend?? I've been wearing glasses since I was 7, and now the doctor wants me to wear hard contacts to stop my cornea from growing. It sounds painful!! X( Any advice or information that would help? They told me so much information that I can barely remember any of it... :(

Aah, yes! Thank you for reminding me!! I have myopia [sp?]. I think that might help you better understand my condition :)

Answers:

Well, you sound like you have myopia. I am 43 and have an Rx of -6.50 . Hard lenses might keep your cornea from making things worse, but if it is a hereditary thing that is going on, and it sounds like it is, you would still have the problem and it would re surface once you stopped wearing the Lenses. If you have a condition called Kerataconus which is a thinning of the cornea that causes a lot of myopia as well, you might need the hard contacts to keep your cornea from thinning, in that case it is highly suggestable that you do wear that kind of lense. I would have your f9olks go back and ask more questions, but the one I would like to have answered is why not just let your eyes go to where they are going and in the mean while use soft lenses. Then, once you are in your 20's have some sort of Lazer surgery to correct your vision permanently. No matter what, you still need glasses as you can not wear contacts 24/7so in my opinion i tis not an either/or decision. Your Doctor will answer your questions, just tell them that you were confused and you want to know why they think it is important to stop the myopia at this point. If it is just a whim, forgo the hard lenses and wear soft ones and get back up glasses. IF you have Kerataconus, go for the hard lenses. You should always have back up glasses no matter what.
