Eyesight Help?!

Question:

Eyesight Help?

Ive been wearing glasses ever since 2nd grade. Ive tried contacts, but they itch and irritate my eyes, so i stopped wearing them. The doctors always say that glasses are supposed to correct your vision over time, but mine just gets worse or stays the same. Will my eyesight ever be 20/20 again or will i just have to get surgery when i turn 18?

Answers:

I am sorry to tell you that you have been misinformed if you have been told that wearing glasses will "correct" your vision. Glasses "compensate" for your vision loss but have no capability to "correct" it. The only option available that can give you long term stable correction of your vision is laser vision correction.

Sometimes patient's prescriptions do improve over time while wearing eyeglasses. Statistical analysis, though, shows that those who do improve while wearing glasses would have improved on their own with or with wearing the glasses. Also, these improvements are almost never seen if a patient is near sighted (myopia) before age 18. If you want to be free of glasses or contact lenses I would recommend you wait until you are at least 18 and have demonstrated that your prescription is stable. Then seek out the advice and care of an experienced laser vision correction specialist. Hope this helped.
