I think i might have astigmatism?!

I think i might have astigmatism?

I am 14 and never really noticed i didn't have perfect vision. Then i put on my moms glasses (she has astigmatism) and all of a sudden it seemed like everything had so much more detail! I could see every little individual hair on her head and things far away which i could never have seen before. Now i notice that i can't really see far away anymore. Do i have astigmatism like my mom do you think, or just not perfect vision. I've never been to an eye doctor either.

Astigmatism usually comes along with nearsightedness or farsightedness. If you just have astigmatism you will notice a blurriness at any distance (near or far) and this may cause you diziness and headaches. Astigmatism happens because the structure of your eye is not bending the light at the right angle to hit your retina. Your prescription will probably not be the exact same as your mothers but it is possible that it could be pretty close.... thats why you may see better with her glasses. If you do not have any trouble or get headaches from reading books or the board at school you may be ok. But just to be sure you should go see an eye doctor to get your eyes tested.
