Transitions lenses?!

Question:

Transitions lenses?

I just got a pair of brown Transitions lenses, and they aren't getting dark. I brought them back to the store, the guy put them under the light thing, and they got dark, but when i go outside they just dont get any darker. I tried freezing them for 15 minutes, then leaving them out in the sun for another 15 minutes, but nothing has worked. What's wrong, and what should I do?

Answers:

Transition lenses have a photo chromic dye in them that causes the lenses to darken when UV rays from the sun hit them. The lenses will react accordingly to the amount of UV rays…. On an overcast day there will be a light tint and on a day with full sun there will be a dark tint. The light they used in the store to darken them is just a UV light. The amount they darkened in the store is the darkest they should get. I wouldn’t recommend freezing your glasses though…. Even if in cold temperatures they darken slightly more they are not meant to intentionally be frozen. Freezing could potentially damage them. If you are uncertain that your transitions are darkening properly, bring them back to the store again and get them to test them under the UV light again. Also remember the brown doesn't’t look quite as dark as the grey. If your not happy with the tint at its darkest you should look into prescription sunglasses with a grey tint.
