Question:

Does anyone have experiences with contact lens implantation (contact-lens is placed in the eye)?

Answers:

I think what you mean to say is intra-ocular lens implantation. It's not actually a contact lens, but a lens which is implanted within the eye to replace our natural lens.

This is usually done with cataractous lenses which no longer function as they should. I have had the opportunity of implanting around 200 IOLs in my practice. (I am a starting ophthalmolgist), and I'm glad to say that most of them are doing quite well.

IOLs started way back in the early 1940's but have only grown into general acceptance and evetually standard practice in the the late 1970's. Ophthalmology in general has already had over 25 years of implanting intra-ocular lenses.

As a a patient, you will not feel them within your eye. They require no maintenance and will ideally stay in your eye for the rest of your life. They're very safe, comfortable and functional.

Ask your ophthalmologist to explain further, I'm sure he'll be glad to do so.
