Pink Eye - Help Please?!

Question: Okay, I'm a bit confused about the whole Pink Eye infection.
Here is the situation:
My husband has had a bacterial/sinus/cold infection for a bit and FINALLY went to the doctor. She gave him meds and nasal spray. When he started taking the meds, my son and I both started to get a cold. (Mine not so bad due to prenatal vitamins) My son's eyes started to get pinkish and I noticed gunk in my eyes and how dry they felt, so I contacted the doctor and she gave us eye drops.
My son's eyes were suddenly fine again, while I'm doing the drops. Yet now, my husband's one eye is all bloodshot and pink in the whites.
I have had my first prenatal exam and all my std/sts/hiv testing came out negative - all is well with me. My son is quickly getting over his cold. My doctor also didn't see us for the pink eye. So my questions:
1) How common is Pink Eye? (we had it once before last year about the same time)
2) What causes Pink Eye? (I read std's and cat scratch fever? WTF?)

read through this because I think it will answer your questions

Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis is when germs get into the tear duct of the eye. It is very common. Sometimes the eyes become itchy and red due to other things like allergies, etc.

Pink eye is not caused from stds and cat scratch fever. That is a myth.
