What makes our vision worse?!

Question: OK all of my American cousins wear contact lens or glasses. I'm an American and I got glasses in 9th grade. My brother has glasses and my sister might be getting a pair soon.

My cousins in New Zealand, none of them got glasses or contacts. They are of the same family branch as us too. My cousins said its probably the water...

What could be the cause?

Thanks for reading.

I'm going out on left wing here because i don't really know anything about eyes...though one thing i do know (maybe the only thing) is that harmful UV light from the sun isn't very good for ones vision..so maybe where you live is much sunnier then New Zealand (and i know that New Zealand isn't very sunny)

Sometimes reading in the dark can affect the way your vision gets more focused and it strains your eyes

Your eyes are constantly gradually changing. You did not say if your New Zealand cousins have had their eyes checked recently. Maybe they are pulling your leg. I am sure if you went to New Zealand, you would see a lot of people wearing glasses.

Well it isn't the water:)

The way genetics works is complex, but trust me, refractory errors are genrtically based. Your NZ cousins probably just got a different set of genes from their parents.
