The average for single vision glasses is $100-to 200 depending on materials- which you may be interested in if you are nearsighted and conscientious of the thickness of your lenses.

Dollar General

Get a regular exam locally. I think for around $35. Then Go to zennioptical.com They have some wonderful and fashionable glasses and they start at $8.00 on up which includes the prescription! My mom told me about this as this is where she gets hers, but not until I shelled out $310.00 when I had just ordered them somewhere else!

Since you are 17, your parents are still responsible by law, and you need your parents to help you, because you have to prove your income to get help by most places. Your best bet is goint to a free clinic, they usually just take you, and do not question finacial resourses. An indigent hospital is a great place for all your medical needs including eyes, but your parents will have to give you a letter, that they cut you off. Probably with a notary rebublic to sign it. Free at your bank, or a charge of 5-10 dollars depending on where you live. If you were 18 it would be a little easier.
The Lions Club pay for glasses and pay for check-ups contact them. With the Lions Club, talk to them, you may need something from your parents. Since you have a computer to ask this question; look up, lions club and eye appt. on search. It will help you in your town.
Walmart, is the cheapest place to get glasses without help. I have terrible eye, trifocals with prisms. I paid $80 for my Rx other places I would be paying over $160 to start, up to $240 was the highest. Since I am so hard on glasses, I break them easily, I paid $118 for Titanium frames. At most places they start at 200. for the cheapest Titanium frames. I saw my frames for $360 at one store. I go to the local indigent hospital in my area. I do not have to go there, but the care their is far better than the two hopitals that are supposed to give world wide care. Just because they are large, and known all around the world, does not mean they are really that good. I am a retired nurse and I have worked at all three hospitals in my area. Just because I can afford outrageous prices, does not mean that I want to give them all my money. I have better things to do with my money to pay for other peoples luxuries, when I have to work hard for my own. I have been very poor, and needed the help, for me, and my children. I worked my way up, but when I had no money, these organizations and places were there. My children never went without. We had to wait hours, for appointments, and were seen at clinics, but the care was better. Let's face it. Even the most expensive doctors office and hospitals still make one wait for hours. I would rather wait three days and pay 1/3 the price, then to be charged an arm and a leg for instant service. According to TV, the places that give you instant glasses give a poor quality. Be smart, and look, it is there, just find it. If your parents do not have any money, you will be fine, they may have to help you. Again, if they will not help, get a legal document, saying that you are now an independent.
One last thing, if your eyes are not that bad, maybe you might want to join the military. They will teach you a profession, and will make sure, you will always have things you need, as long as you work for them. Not everyone who joins the military is in the Marines, and is on the front lines. Good luck.
