Could you help me review my contact care routine?!

Question: I was fitted for contacts for the first time today. I didn't get any written instructions for contact care, just what the dr. verbally told me. I want to make sure I'm correct in my routine:

1. After he put them in my eyes and I practiced today, I didn't touch the contacts until I removed them tonight. I wear the Night & Days, but the dr. wants me to remove them at night. Once I got them out of my eyes, I rubbed them in solution and then put them in the case with fresh solution.

2. When I put them in tomorrow, I discard the solution from the case, and rinse the contacts straight from the bottle before inserting in my eyes.

3. He didn't say anything about the case. How do I take care of it?

Also, it took me close to an hour to remove my contacts tonight. My eyes got very red and sore. The soreness and most of the redness went away, but now my one eye is slightly blurry (it was the eye I really had a hard time getting the lens out of). This is to be expected, right? Thanks!

You are doing everything right. The case should be washed out maybe once a week, but the solution does that while it is in there anyway. You are new at this, and that is probably why it took you so long to get them out tonight. Just stick with it and in no time you will be getting them in and out like a pro.

I worked for an eye doctor and had to train people to get contacts in and out and teach them how to take care of them.

One more thing, the solution you are using, is it a no rub solution? If it is, there is no need to rub them before putting them in the case at night. Good Luck with everything.

This is exactly why I never take my lenses out and never clean them. You don't have to worry about washing that pesky case that way

Sounds right to me, I used to just rinse my case in hot water to cleanse it every day. and yes until you get used to getting them in and out you might irritate your eyes a bit.

What your doing sounds good, and I had trouble too the first time with my contacts. With the case, just make sure it's kept clean; rinse it out before you use it again with water. It's okay for your eyes to have gotten red and sore, because it's only the first night. Taking them out will get eaiser each time you practice, trust me. Otherwise, it sounds like you know what your doing!

For number 3 Put a clean washcloth down and rinse the case with HOT water and turn the case face down to dry everytime you put your contacts in after they have been sitting in the solution. Don't let the case sit with solution in it all day that is very un sterile. This is to prevent eye infections. And yes that is expected. It should go away after a week.

don't rinse your contacts with tap water, only use your contact solution but for the case you can rinse with water...and yes for the first week or so your eyes should be a little red...try to get it the first or second time...force you eyes open with your fingers, as soon as you feel your fingers touching the eyeball, close your fingers and keep your fingers on the eyeball until the contact if off

That all sounds about right! I've been wearing contacts for thirteen years, and unlike your first answer up there, you DO need to take them out! There is a autoimmune disorder than can develop if you don't. My husband has it, and his contacts cause him lots of trouble. Anyways, just rinse the case out with warm water. I do mine about once a week. Good luck with your new contacts! It'll get easier, promise!
