I need a eye transplant, are they effective, expensive, do they need to do both !

Question: You must mean corneal transplant.

Usually quite effective. Cost to you depends on where you live and whether government health care or private insurance covers it. In Canada, where I live, government health care covers the full cost.

Whether one eye or both are done depends on whether one eye or both has a damaged cornea that can be corrected with a transplant. Only one eye at a time will be done, it takes close to a year to be fully healed.

It was the first transplanted organ and usually the just do the affected eye. Insurance covers the transplant since it is medically necessary.

new procedure that has replace corneal transplants for some patients called a DSEK. just replaces the damaged endothelial cell layer rather than the entire central cornea. faster, safer and faster recovery. ask your doctor
