Do the flakes look as if they are on the surface of your eye? Do you mostly see them when you look at a plain light coloured surface like a wall?

If so you might have 'floaters'. This when the fluid inside your eye starts to solidify into strands as you get older. This condition is very common. It can be annoying but it isn't dangerous and its unlikely to get much worse so there's no real need to worry. it's just part of the ageing process. There's not much you can do about it. If it's really a major problem you can get laser treatment for it and sometimes they go away on their own.

I have one in my right eye. It's a long thin strand straight up and down. Most of the time I can't see it. Only when I stare at a wall or a cloudless sky. So It doesn't really bother me.

You might want to go get an eye test. You should get them checked regularly anyway. And perhaps discuss it with your optician. They will be able to let you know if there's any problem. But it's probably nothing to worry about at all.

Yes, it sounds like there is something wrong, but go see the doctor before you go blind!
