How Long Should I Wear Acuvue Advance Contacts?!

Question: I know the box recommendation days to replace a pair of contacts every 2 weeks, but I'm always wearing the same pair for 4-7 weeks, then replacing them. Is that bad for my eyes?

Keeping your contact lenses for longer than recommended puts your eyes at increased risk infection. This is because the different materials they make contact lenses out of have different levels of deposit resistance - the more resistant, the longer the interval between disposals.

If you wait to change your contacts when they feel uncomfortable, they are actually at the point where they are damaging your eyes. That is why they feel uncomfortable. Your eyes can only take so much of that.

The risk of severe infection from using contact lenses is small, but this risk increases when you don't follow the recommendations given to you by your optometrist. The risk is still small, but the risk can lead to permanent visual loss.

I would normally recommend you replace Acuvue Advance lenses every 14 wears, or one month - whichever comes first.

I don't think the risk is worth it, it's a false economy. If cost is the issue, save up and get laser - that is less risky than abusing contacts.

Yes it is. Germs can build up. I would suggest following the instructions. Because you might get long term damage from that. So just stick with the two weeks.

Yes it is very bad and I had to go to an eye specialist for the same reason because I would wear mine for 5 months straight and never take them out. They gave me drops and I couldnt wear contacts for a few months. But I'm wearing them again and still for long periods of time. No further issues yet. But I would not suggest doing it. I am just lazy and forgetful.

Yeah, but I wear the same contacts for a very long time.
So does my mum.
But I just got Acuvue Oasys, they're so amazing and cuzzzzzzzy and you can sleep in them.
:]

You should follow the instructions on the box or those that your optometrst gave you.

If you keep your lenses longer then recomended then they will damage your eyes. They get a build up of bacteria on them and will casue infections.

J&J product material starts to break down after 2 weeks so I STRONGLY recomend discarding your lenses every 2 weeks.

If you have problems remember to throw them out I believe you can go to the Johnson and Johnson website to sign up for e-mail reminders every 2 weeks.

Besides material deterioration major eye complications can arise. You only have one set of eyes - treat them well!
