Where can I buy a magnifying glass in the High Street?!

If you want a good one, opticians have them. If you want a cheap and nasty one, pound-shops have them too.

You might want to see about getting her a page-magnifier; an A5 Fresnel magnifying lens, that she can hold above the page.... or a line-magnifier; a half-cylinder of perspex that can be slid down the page line by line. They both work pretty well, but may not be high-street items.
