Contact Lenses Help?!

Question: How can I get over my fear of putting contact lenses in? When I was 9, I tried contact lenses, but I had a really hard time getting them in. One time, I somehow blinked while putting them in, and it got stuck under my eyelid. We had to go to the eye doctor just to get it out. After that, I pretty much gave up on contact lenses, because I was too scared to put them in. Now I'm 13 though ,and I want to try them again. How can I have an easier time putting them in?
Please don't say just not to get them. I'm only getting them because my eyesight is horrible (like -9 or so) and getting worse, and hard contact lenses are supposed to help my eyes, or at least keep them from getting worse.

3 out of 4 of my daughters wear contact lenses. and have been since they were 8. 2 of them are twins and are now 13. It took them a while to learn how to do it correctly. And they finally just got it a year ago, without me or my wife helping them. This is what i used to tell them:

Concentrate
Try to take them out away from people
Take your time
DO NOT rush

Now they can take them out less then10 seconds.
It takes practice.
But in your case you might be anxious. so dont rush at it. Be patient and look in the mirror. It helps.
I would perfer contacts more then glasses actually. But always have a pair.
I hope i helped

Jus get over it. its not a big freakin deal . there the best invention ever(Instantly perfect vision)....Also it helps to put a drop of solution in the contact before you insert it into your eye...it feels like an eyedrop..NO BIG DEAL

First and foremost you need to relax. I think 9 is a little young to start wearing them. Perhaps now at 13 it will be better. I always put mine in in the bathroom over the vanity infront of a mirror. Using your index finger place it into the middle of your eye it shoud go in just fine. Just practice always remember to wash your hands before inserting and wash the lens with solution cos even a little bit of dust will cause your eyes to sting and water. Once you have got the hang of it they're great trust me. Just relax that's part of your problem.

well i first had contacts when i was 12 (februrary of this year), and now im 13, also. it took over an hour and a half for me to put them in a the doc's ofice, but then i guess i just put them in. keep repeating to yourself "i can do this, i can do this". dont think negative-think only positive thoughts. if u like a boy, then think about what he will think of u, and so on. glad 2 help, and happy holidays!!!!!

Try to go to a provider who specializes in contact lenses or eye care for children. Even though you're not a child any more, the people who work there should know a lot of tricks to help you out. When you schedule your appointment, ask if they can be prepared to give you extra time to practice inserting and removing your contacts. This will let them know to be ready to give you extra help and smart tips. Don't leave the office without being comfortable with inserting/removing your contacts. And if the doctor's office isn't willing to do that for you, find a new doctor.
I work for an optometrist, and have spent hours on consecutive days with young patients practicing with their new lenses (one as young as 7!). They are welcome to return to our office day after day until they feel comfortable using their contacts. Hopefully you see a doctor who will give you the same experience.

You can try putting them in this way. Place the contact lens on the tip of your index or middle finger. With the fingers and thumb of your other hand, simultaneously pull up on your upper eyelid and down on your lower eyelid.Position the lens on your eye while looking upward or forward. Roll your eyes in a complete circle to help the lens settle, then blink. For all details, information and remedies about contacts check out http://use-contactlens.blogspot.com/
