What's the name of the eye disease that can be detected by "red-eye&quo!

Question: What is the name of the eye disease that "they" discovered a few years ago could possibly be detected if a person kept coming up with "red-eye' in photos taken of them. I have a friend whose baby (about 6 mos old now) has always got "red-eye" in every photo and has since birth.

Retinoblastoma.

A rare, aggressive and dangerous eye tumour of infants.

It shows because the normal "red eye" reflex is absent, the pupil showing white.

A white pupil in these circumstances does not have to be retinoblastoma:
Congenital cataract
Choroidal coloboma
Retrolental fibroplasia
are all alternate diagnoses, but the retinoblastoma is so severe a life-threatening condition that immediate assessment is required.

Demonic Posession could cause this continual red-eye effect. Contact your nearest Priest!

check out conjuntivitus , it covers a large range of the pink/red eye disorders, but the best thing to do is see a optomologist not a optometrist as they are usually more skilled in the medical side of the eyes rather than doing eye testing for glasses

Sorry, no such disease can be detected by the "red-eye" in photos. You may be thinking about an eye disease called pink-eye which is an generic name for a range of eye infections. If the baby were to have one of these infections it would be obvious without having to take a picture. The eye or eyes would be pink or red with a crusty or wet discharge.

The red-eye seen in the photos is just a sign of bad picture taking.

It is definitely not a disease. It is a effect where the flashes of the camera obscura reach the retina through the pupil and bounce back to the pupil again. the red reflection is the retina. It is a photographic effect. It can be removed with the computer software named Adobe Photoshop. This is called the "red-eye effect".
