I have the same problem all the time. LOL
Eat 3 or 4 dried plums (aka prunes).
Dried figs will help, too, but eat about 5 or 6.
Have a big salad with lots of veggies.
Eat some fresh fruit - apples, oranges, or pears are great for constipation.
Drinks lots of water. Drink prune juice. Drink apple juice. Have a hot drink such as coffee or tea.
Eat a bowl of whole-grain cereal: Cheerios, Wheaties, etc.
I usually have to have a combo of all the above to get results.

Don't use laxatives, they are very harsh on your system and you can become dependant on them.

Dried figs do have some fiber, but they are mostly sugar. Any food containing fiber will help.

You might also consider food or drink that increases gastric motility. Caffinated drinks, coffee or soft drinks for example might work in the short term. That cup of morning coffee does it for many Americans.

The most common cause of constipation is a diet low in fiber found in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains and high in fats found in cheese, eggs, and meats. People who eat plenty of high-fiber foods are less likely to become constipated. For people prone to constipation, limiting foods that have little or no fiber, such as ice cream, cheese, meat, snacks like chips and pizza, and processed foods such as instant mashed potatoes or already prepared frozen dinners, is also important.

If you can not consume all of the daily serving requirements of high fiber foods, or if you do not get relief from constipation, fiber supplements may be added to the diet. Adding too much of a fiber supplement in the diet "too quickly" can cause constipation, diarrhea and bloating, intestinal gas (flatulence) and other digestive discomforts. This problem can usually be reduced by increasing fiber in your diet "slowly" over a period of weeks which helps your health and your body to adjust. When fiber supplements are increased, water must be increased.

whats constipation got to do with optical

Large amounts of prune juice. Also Kelloggs makes a bran cereal made from psyllium husks that will help with regularity too. Just do the right thing and incorporate more fiber into your diet.

would be advisable to drink more water, too!
