Is possible I am becoming blind?!

Question: Okay I have had bad eye site, not seeing clearly after about two or three yards without glasses or contacts. I got contacts this year and after the first few months I began to keep them in for a few days, then a week or two, finally I would keep them in a whole month (They are monthly) Well normally I would take them out and instantly putting new ones in, so I thought my eyes where just adjusting. But just about a 1/2 hour ago I took out my contacts and I still can't see clearly past 14 inchs.

So is this permenant and should I get my eyes checked out?

It's quite possible that keeping your contacts in for a month has caused damage to your cornea (possible epithelial growth??) so it's imperative that you visit your eye care professional ASAP so s/he can determine what caused further vision decrease. Hopefully it's nothing serious but I have seen non-compliant patients cause damage and substantial loss in visual acuity by sleeping in contact lenses that are not meant to be slept in.

Good luck! And I would highly recommend NOT wearing your contact lenses for the time being until you have answers from your optometrist.

honestly nobody can answer this one better for you than a real eyedoctor or your own physician! thats if you want a correct answer. good luck and i hope you wont go blind.

i dont know but im going to get my eyes checked out too and um thanks for the points

I agree with beki.... please get your eyes checked out.

Yes it is possible to have a degenerative eye disease which causes you to lose your sight over time.

See your doctor.

it could simply be that your contact lenses are too dirty. another possible reason is that your eyes are not recieving enough oxygen due to the contact lens as a barrier. abnormal blood vessels might have grown in your cornea and cause your poor vision.
extended wear contact lenses might have also caused your cornea to swell.
the worst possibiliy is an eye disease like keratoconus.
so please please go consult your optometrist!

If you can see clearly with the contacts in, you are not becoming blind. Blindness means you see poorly even with glasses or contacts. Even if you see a little bit blurred with the contacts in, most likely your prescription has changed, not that you have become blind.

It is normal to see poorly with glasses or contacts off, that is why you need glasses!

Go back and see your optician.Better safe than sorry.I have an eye condition called Retinitis pigmentosa,I am registered partially sighted. There is no cure, and I am slowly going blind.I would give anything to have my sight back,so please go and get a check up.Your eyes are precious,so do everything possible to keep them.
