Elsewhere in the UK it is only paid for by the NHS (so no charge to you but it's not free!) if you are under 19 and in full time education, over 60, over 40 with a family history of glaucoma, if you have glaucoma, diabetes or a complex prescription (over + or - 10D) or if you or your partner are claiming income support, job seekers allowance, pension credit or working tax credit
You get what you pay for in this day and age. You don't barter in tesco's when buying food or in topshop buying clothes so why try and get discounts in the opticians???

eye tests are now free to everyone
Sometimes they do free eyetests in boots and other smaller opticians, just keep a look out.
I've seen a few with signs outside saying free eyetest today.
