Lasik Vs. Contacts Pros and Cons?!

Question: I'm scared about the surgery can anyone (who has had Lasik eye surgery) ease my nerves?

I had LASIK just over a week ago and I have had no bad effects from it. My eyes feel great and I am seeing 20/15 and possibly as good as 20/10. My eyes weren't terrible before, but I can now see better than I did with my glasses. As for LASIK vs. Contacts, I am a baby when it comes to my eyes. So much so that I wouldn't get contacts because I couldn't get my finger close to my eyes. Having the Laser Surgery is so simple and easy that I was not nervous while it was going on because I had to take 2 valiums 2 hours before the surgery and they use numbing eye drops. There was no pain, just pressure. Someone mentioned about the flesh smell, yes there was a burning flesh smell, but it wasn't that bad. I figure with my astigmistisms and my prescription that if I was to get contacts for a year supply would be about $400, if not more. For what I paid is the same as getting contacts for 5 years. So if you think about it, I don't have to do anything but maybe put drops in and I don't have to worry about getting red eyes from contacts or anything because they were left in to long. Not to mention that I can wake up in the morning and see the clock and TV clear as day. Good luck in whatever decision you make.

ok. this is kinda gross, but..my friend AND her dad both got lasik. it helped okay...but they said they could smell the eye and flesh burning. ewh. but i theyre okay, just ew.. and sometimes that stuff doesent even work.

however, i like contacts. but, if you arent careful you can loose them and stuff, ya know?

I seriously researched this and talked to a few doctors...and made the appointment to go to Canada to have it done (less expensive, and more history). I was told either people totally love the results, or regret it forever....and not much in between. The regret comes from chronic dry eyes, requiring drops a few times a day, lots of halos around lights. And either way, it still doesn't help with the need for reading classes as you get older. And not everyone can get 20/20 so they will still need glasses even after surgery. I would still have gotten it, but my cornea is on the absolute minimum required for surgery and left no room for error correction later....so I chickened out. But some people LOVE it.

At least with contacts, they are temporary. You can always get new ones if and when your prescription changes. LASIK is supposed to be permanent but everybody I know who had it had to go back for a follow-up procedure a few years later. Also, I've been told that you can never wear contacts again after getting it done.

I got a combination of both. Since Lasik won't work with astigmatisms or severe corrections, and doesn't last forever, loss of night vision is common, and the process is not reversible (in case they screw up)... I kept looking.

I went for permanently (surgically) implanted lenses. They use the laser to lift off your natural lens, install the glass, and lower you lens back down. And if it's not perfect, it can be removed and replaced. I went from 20/500+ to 20/15 and have better night vision. It's been about 3 years now.

Look for Versa-Lens. In LA, go see Dr. Kerry Assil. Same price, same quick results, far less risks.

Lasik is consider a safe surgery. I had done it and i love it. It is better than to have a piece of plastic on the eyes. yes there might be some eye-related problem like not having sharper image at nite. But the surgery is consider safe ones.
